Facebook Adds New Features to Like Button
Our recent blog post gave you directions for installing Facebook’s like button on your website. If you have not installed the Like button yet you are in the minority, as it has now been added to 350,000 sites with more than 3 million Likes a day, according to the article Facebook Adds New Features to Like Button appearing on socialmediatoday.com. And if you’ve been dragging your feet on adding the Like button, this article gives more reasons for why you should.
Facebook recently added three new features that will allow visitors to your website who then in turn Like your Facebook page to engage with your product /brand and, allow you to know more about who these potential customers are. The new Iframe Commenting feature will allow people to Like and then add a comment to their like (if they use layout=”standard” with a wide button of at least 450 pixels). Once the comment is added, the user’s profile is updated with the reason for the like, which could mean a good endorsement of a product or brand the user promotes to a friend.
The second feature, Publishing via Graph API feature will allow users to publish special deals, coupons, events and local community information with greater ease with Open Graph tags. And perhaps the most exciting feature for advertisers and business owners are the advanced Facebook Like Analytics that have been added to the Like button. Included are the “ref and source parameters for admins to A/B test different types and placements of the Like button. These analytics also allow Facebook to remove personally identifiable information from URLs to protect user privacy but provide useful data for “developers interested in tracking and optimizing the performance of their Like buttons.”
